Overview

Councils have undergone and are still undergoing, widespread transformational change as they move service offers to new operating models and new strategic deliverables. The challenge now is to understand existing markets that councils currently operate in, make the “golden thread” connections for them and then think generally, and specifically, about generating commercial opportunities and effective service delivery solutions in a climate of ongoing austerity.

To help facilitate this, it is important that local government leaders and managers are equipped to understand and deliver commercial innovation around systems, processes, new products and new services.

This course will enable you to

  • Develop an understanding of commercial awareness
  • Prioritise decisions in support of strategic objectives
  • Select from a range of tools to analyse a situation and apply these effectively
  • Construct robust business cases to inform commercial decisions
  • Make decisions based on consistent financial analysis, forecasting and instinct
  • Drive investment performance and business value.
  • Consider the four perspectives of a balanced scorecard approach
  • Raise awareness of your own decision making style

Who is the Course aimed at

  • Budget holders and cost centre managers
  • Managers required to contribute to commercial and strategic decisions
  • Project managers with commercial responsibilities
  • Managers who want to hold more productive conversations with finance colleagues.
