Overview

Everyone has the right to work in a workplace free of discrimination. Discrimination comes in many forms, some obvious but some not quite so. This lively, interactive session uses professional actors and interesting scenarios to explore this important topic. This is a course to really make everyone think. Challenging but not patronizing, the session will bring everyone up to date on this important topic.

This course will enable you to

  • Learn about what discrimination is and why does it matter?
  • Understand systemic biases and how to combat them.
  • Understand concepts we see in the media such as white privilege and tokenism and their impact.
  • Be able to identify negative labelling.
  • Explore how unconscious and personal biases may affect our attitudes and their impact on equality at work.
  • Explore the impact and significance of microaggressions at work.
  • Understand the importance of challenging inappropriate behaviours, attitudes and language when needed.
  • Understand your own individuality and the need for mutual respect with others.
  • Be able to distinguish between harmless banter and harassing language.
  • Be aware of the 2010 Equality Act and the forms of discrimination covered by it.
  • Explore what ‘good practice’ looks like and feels like.
