Overview

The programme is designed for managers with the ability to manage high performance and tackle under-performance, and to take personal responsibility for their learning. This is a highly participative programme with time built in for reflection. You will consider how to link performance standards required of individuals and teams to the strategic needs and priorities of your Council and the work of your Service. Through trying out ideas, practising skills, working on individual issues and tackling problems in small groups, you will be directly engaged with the key performance management issues.

By the end of this programme, you will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of performance management for the individual, the team and the organisation
  • Recognise the manager’s role in managing performance and use a variety of methods to promote and encourage effective performance
  • Set clear standards and expectations to enable performance management
  • Analyse and identify behaviour based performance, giving effective feedback
  • Diagnose causes of poor performance
  • Confidently address poor performance quickly and effectively
  • Successfully respond to and manage reactions

Who is the Course aimed at

This training is one module of the STC Management Programme aimed at aspiring to middle managers. However, this can be attended as a one-off session or as part of the programme.
