Overview

After the course delegates will understand the difference between oral evidence and written evidence, and the consequent safeguards that need to be put in place for witness statements.  They will become familiar with the look and feel of a criminal and civil witness statement. Delegates will be aware of best practice in statement writing, in particular what to include and what not to include.  They will understand what makes a witness statement effective.

This course will enable you to

  • Assess a witness statement using a sectioned checklist
  • List the fundamental differences between a criminal and civil witness statement
  • Describe where a witness statement fits in the evidence timeline, and why that is important

Anyone who needs to take a formal statement that may be used in a criminal or civil prosecution case.
