Overview

The ability to write good quality, clear, concise and structured reports and papers is a vital requirement for many council officers and elected members.

In this 3 hour full interactive online session, the trainer will improve the confidence of delegates and give them new skills to improve their report writing abilities, and make the report writing process quicker and easier.  In addition, delegates will expand their political awareness and learn what elected members want and need from reports.

This course will enable you to

  • gain confidence and learn a number of new techniques and skills to improve your report writing ability.
  • develop a report writing process (or system) which you can directly adopt in your workplace.
  • gain a better understanding of political awareness, and will understand what elected members want and need from their reports.

The agenda includes: Why local government reports matter (to the authority and the individual); the 4 stages of report writing; Understanding the report’s purpose, objective, readership, and the political awareness you may need; Report framework, structure, and considering your report’s obligations and implications; Writing your report (language, tone and the implementing of the 4 cs); Readability and the importance of fact checking; What elected councillors want from your report; general report writing skills.
