Overview

This course will acquaint staff with requirements needed for presentation of evidence and facts contained within witness statements at criminal court.

The training is designed to provide the delegates with the confidence to attend Court and give evidence.  The course is designed to remove some of the myths and risks associated with attending Court to give evidence.

Case study statements can be used during the training to emphasise how the evidence may be used by the prosecution and defence. The opportunity is provided to the delegates for role play exercises to enhance their learning.

This course will enable you to

Learn what is involved in attending court and giving evidence.

The course covers:

  • The rules of evidence as contained within legislation.
  • Case building, elements of offence.
  • Examine the different functions of the courts within the UK court system, covering in depth the differences between Magistrates and Crown Court.
  • Roles of the personnel in Magistrates and Crown Court.
  • Witness intimidation legislation.
  • PACE Sec 76 and 78 and trials within a trial.
  • Examine best practice with regard to preparation for giving evidence.
  • What to do upon arrival at court.
  • Use of original notes and original statement when giving evidence in Court.
  • Production of exhibits at Court.
  • Rules regarding pre-Court meetings and
    briefings.
  • Evidence in chief and cross-examination, including defence tactics.
  • Role play with some cross-examination and debrief.

Any person who is required to present their evidence in court.
