Finance for Non-Financial Managers

Overview

This is an interactive and enjoyable course that will enable managers to be more confident in managing budgets and enable them to understand the key financial aspects of their work in the context of wider organisational resource management.

This course is designed to improve attendees’ understanding and interpretation of public sector finances, with a particular emphasis on local authorities.  It focusses on principles rather than specifics, but provides the tools essential to bidding, budget planning, monitoring and management.

The aim is to increase the ability of non-financial managers and staff to contribute positively when finance is on the agenda and decisions are being made and to account confidently for their performance.

This course will enable you to

• Understand key financial terminology and concepts
• Review the structure of funding and budgets in the public sector
• Develop an awareness of resource management (and financial resources in particular)
• Explore the essentials of financial strategy
• Be able to use financial reporting effectively
• Perform confidently in a financial related presentation/conversation

Who is the Course aimed at

Senior leaders, managers, team leaders/supervisors.

Please note the course is suitable for participants from all business functions, and assumes no prior knowledge of finance or accounting.  It is however aimed at non-finance managers and will probably be insufficient for those needing to work in finance functions directly (who would require more technical training).
