Overview

During the first session (Part 1) we will review, discuss and evaluate the typical dilemmas which can occur as a
manager. The session will offer practical tools, techniques and models to use to avoid and
manage difficult situations when they occur.

During this second session (Part 2) we will review the learning from Part 1 and continue to explore how different people deal with conflict during organisational change and how to be adaptable to using different styles for different situations and people.

This course will enable you to

Part 1 – Management Dilemmas and dealing with difficult situations

• What defines a management dilemma?
• Why dilemmas happen in the first place
• Addressing the elephant in the room
• The fear of managing difficult situations and the zone of uncomfortable debate
• The psychology of communication and avoiding triggers
• Adapting your communication to influence not justify
• Purposeful practice and discussions

Part 2 – Management Dilemmas and dealing with difficult situations during change

• Your comfort zone of communication
• Essentials skills in managing dilemmas
• Understanding conflict and adapting your style
• Review of coaching skills in managing dilemmas
• Managing resistance to being managed
• Tools and techniques for managing dilemmas and organisational change
• Starting and ending your conversations
• Purposeful practice and discussions
