Overview

This course will provide delegates with the key skills to interview all parties to an investigation, including the taking of witness statements. Delegates will also be trained in the effective interviewing of subjects and suspects to best-practice standards, maximising the evidence gained during such interviews.

This course will enable you to

  • Deploy Structured planning and preparing across a range of interview scenarios.
  • Understand the value of effective use of core skills, such as appropriate questioning techniques to gain maximum evidence.
  • Ensure that the disclosure of evidence before and during the interview is both legal and effective.
  • Confidently approach any category of interview, including suspects and non-suspects.
  • Apply best practice techniques when dealing with no-comment, silence or other interviewee resistance.
  • Work with defence solicitors, trade-union representatives or other third parties to accomplish best outcomes.
  • Identify signs of deception and body language signals which are inconsistent with the subject’s verbal account.
  • Ensuring interviews are in accordance with relevant legislation such as PACE, CPIA and HRA.

Who is the Course aimed at

Anyone who is involved in planning, preparing, managing and completing investigations using PACE legislation and needs to increase their knowledge and understanding of the Codes of Practice and relevant legislation and techniques.
