Overview
This course gives a good introduction to all elements of presenting and will help build confidence in an interactive and engaging style which gives participants the opportunity to apply their newly acquired skills.
Course Content
Part One
• Introduction and objectives: Short ice breaker and a reminder of our objectives
• Planning a presentation: Timings, practice and rehearsals, preparing any materials including the
effective use of slides
• Visuals and props: Making it memorable – presentations that are more than just words, with focus on
making the most of technology to enhance your presentation especially when presenting online
• Making your point: Presenting to a room/ virtual ‘room’ confidently – being assertive and knowing your
audience
• The language of communication: Choosing our words, exploring questioning techniques, keeping
control and being aware of jargon
• Non-verbal communication: Body language and holding the listener’s attention
Part Two
• Planning our presentations: Time to prepare our short pair presentations on a topic of our choice,
applying our learning from this morning
• Time to present: 5-10 minutes of presentation time per pair, plus a question or two and trainer
feedback
• Managing your audience: Handling questions, challenging behaviour or disruptions
• Feedback: The importance of it, how to get it and how to use it to enhance your next presentation
• Following the training day, delegates will be sent recordings of their short presentations to reflect on
themselves and have the opportunity to reflect on the feedback provided to them by the trainer.
