Overview

This Report Writing workshop for Local Government Officers will consist of:

  • Practical tips on planning, writing and editing reports.
  • Skill-building writing exercises designed to reinforce key learning points.
  • Review sessions which will focus on reports written by Council employees.

This workshop will also assist delegates with other tasks which include writing emails, letters, briefing documents, minutes of meetings, web content and intranet content.

This course will enable you to

  • lay the foundations for an effective report
  • avoid the most common report writing mistakes
  • understand and address your readers’ aims and needs
  • write clearly and concisely, minimising complicated language
  • review and edit reports to achieve a more professional end result.
  • learn useful techniques to speed up the writing process
  • understand a key test which all business documents must pass
  • learn a neat trick to quickly find good alternative words and phrases
  • learn simple tips used by professional writers to make their words more accessible

Throughout the course participants will be encouraged to ask questions and raise any issues they have relating to the drafting of reports.
