  • Private information and collateral intrusion, what is it and the impact on proportionality?
  • Non RIPA Surveillance, categories and expectations.
  • CCTV issues.
  • Necessity and proportionality.
  • Equipment, noise machines, what are the responsibilities and requirements, impact on proportionality.
  • Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS) identifying when someone is a CHIS.
    • People who provide repeat information.
    • Test purchases.

    • Is it routine, RIPA or non RIPA?
    • How to manage?
    • Inspectors’ expectations.
  • Application procedure through to cancellation.

This course will enable you to

  • Recognise from different scenarios when your actions are likely to engage article 8 Rights to Privacy with regard to surveillance issues.
  • Identify the relevant requirements and procedures required to carry out any form of surveillance, either under RIPA or outside of the RIPA legislation.
  • Recognise the risks to breaching legislation and procedure.
  • Identify when and how conducting internet research engages the Right to Privacy and the up to date requirements.
  • Recognise the latest guidance and requirements for managing any material subject to a RIPA authorisation, both operationally and corporately.
