Overview

The local government political management process works best when elected members and officers understand respective responsibilities and have good communication systems in place with good working relationships.

This half-day virtual workshop will help you to navigate the Council’s decision-making process more effectively and get to grips with who is responsible for what. You will better understand where you fit in, your role and responsibilities and where to go for information, resources and support.

This course will enable you to

  • Understand the political structure at [your Council] and the respective roles and responsibilities of Councillors, the Executive Mayor, the Speaker, Cabinet, Committees and officers.
    • Understand the decision-making process.
    • Learn some approaches to influencing.
    • Learn about the Member Officer Relationship Protocol and the implications for you in your role.
    • Understand the role of the manager in supporting good governance.
